Live vs Rounds

Every session runs in one of two modes, chosen when it's created. The mode changes what you see while voting and whether you can change your mind.

Live

Results update as people vote, and votes can change until the session closes. Your submitted ballot counts immediately — the "Live results" bars everyone sees include it — and you can update it any time while the room is open. Live sessions can also allow brainstorming: participants propose new options while voting is open, and everyone's ballot simply extends to cover them.

Rounds

Sealed ballots: everyone votes once, privately, and results are revealed together when the round ends. Nobody's choice can be influenced by watching the tally move. After you submit, your ballot is sealed for that round. If a new option is added during the first round, your ballot stays exactly as you cast it and the new option starts unrated for you — you can update your vote to include it.

Runoff rounds

A Rounds vote (one with a consensus target) may need more than one round: if the target isn't reached, the least-supported options are removed and a new round opens on the rest. Earlier ballots don't carry over — everyone votes again on the remaining options. This repeats until the target is met or the options can't be narrowed further, in which case the remaining options stand as the result.

Final agreement

A Rounds session can additionally require every participant to confirm the result before it becomes final. With auto-complete on, there is no Confirm button — only Dispute — and the session completes on its own after a grace period if nobody objects. A dispute pauses the result for everyone until the organizer re-opens voting.
